Erik Satie's sarabande becomes an underlying musical theme, which gradually becomes more unhinged as the score progresses. Zeffira's Elizabeth Harvest score contains elements of all of her musical influences, from her choral and orchestral arranging to her oboe solos and contemporary songwriting. Well worth your time, if you can deal with a truly slow burn.Limited CLEAR Vinyl LP pressing of Rachel Zeffira's (Cat's Eyes) score to Sebastian Gutierrez's 'Elizabeth Harvest'. While the plot is convoluted and suffers at times the technological aspects of the film and its performances manage to just about salvage it.Įlizabeth Harvest is well worth your time, with a myriad of twists and turns and some truly philosophical plot threads that are tied up neatly in a bow by the end.

She plus Elizabeth perfectly simple minded, beautiful, doe eyed and extremely confused, scared and intrigued by everything going on around her. Lee proved her prowess in Mad Max and the Neon Demon but here proves she’s s mich higher calibre of actress than most would usually expect of a supermodel. The main draws of the film are it’s beautiful cinematography, scenery, some fantastic elements of horror and suspense and an absolutely mesmerising performance from leading lady Lee. Despite a fantastic set up and an overall great plot however, the film suffers due to an overly long runtime and far too much exposition (though the exposition is necessary and even with it the film is still hugely confusing at times). I can’t say much more of the plot without spoiling but the film could be seen as a modern adaptation of the 17th century fairytale Bluebeard. Everything seems perfect and there’s only one rule a single basement room is off limits to Elizabeth, no matter what.Įlizabeth promptly breaks the rule and discovers the shocking secret Henry and Claire are hiding and this sets in motion a series of events that are both marvellous whilst madly confusing and thought provoking. A young, beautiful but perpetually confused woman who has recently married rich older gentleman and genius Henry (Ciarán Hinds) The two celebrate their honeymoon in his opulent, isolated mountainside home where their every whims are attended to by housemaid Claire (Carla Gugino) and blind Oliver (Matthew Beard). Supermodel turned actress Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road, The Neon Demon) plays the titular character.
